MCA Or MBA After Your Degree | In 2025 Which Is Best?

MCA Or MBA After Your Degree | Which Is Best? In this blog, we are going to discuss about which option is best after BCA. In the previous blog, we already discussed about which job option is best after BCA or whether MCA is best. But in this blog, we are going to discuss about MCA or MBA after BCA. So that’s the main parameter we will discuss in this blog.

So, I am Pratik Srivastava, Founder and CEO of OnlineStudyForYou and Placementwala. I have around 1 million-plus followers across YouTube and Instagram. So, I am the perfect person to guide you because we deal exclusively with educational content — kind of e-education and tech, or edtech, you could say.

Before starting this blog, we will discuss what MCA and MBA are. Okay, so first of all, MCA stands for Master of Computer Applications, which is a two-year program under AICTE, meaning All India Council for Technical Education.

And the second thing — MBA stands for Master of Business Administration. You can pursue MCA after your BCA, BSc, and some colleges even allow BCom students as well. On the other hand, for MBA, if you are from BCA, BBA, BSc — you can still enroll in the program. MCA Or MBA After Your Degree

So, after completing BCA, you can enroll in an MCA. MCA is also a great career choice, I can say. Master of Computer Applications is a two-year degree program.

But before 2018–19, MCA had much more value than it has nowadays, because at that time it was a three-year degree program with a better curriculum and more industry-relevant skills that colleges were able to teach.

Nowadays, due to limited time, colleges are not able to cover all the concepts within two years — including practicals, internships, and projects. So, MCA is losing its value step by step.

However, if you can manage multiple tasks along with your studies, then you can definitely go ahead with MCA.

And yes, MCA includes subjects like C, Python, DBMS, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Data Analytics, and Maths. There are also many core technical subjects depending on the university.

To pursue MCA, you need to give an entrance test — this depends on the state. Also, students prefer to appear for NIMCET, which is the national-level entrance exam for better MCA colleges.

If we talk about MBA, the same scenario as MCA has happened here. Earlier, it used to be a three-year program, which included in-depth management-level subjects. But nowadays, AICTE has reduced it to two years.

MBA now includes subjects like accounting, management, leadership skills, and entrepreneurship. These are some of the multiple subjects covered in the MBA curriculum.

The average package lies between 6 to 7 LPA, depending on the colleges, universities, and whether they fall under Tier 1 or Tier 2 — which really matters here.

So, before going ahead, I would prefer to suggest: if you want to do an MBA, then please try to do it from an IIM. And if you want to do MCA, then pursue it through NIMCET, which helps you get into better MCA colleges.

So, I think this is the main and major difference between MCA and MBA. MCA Or MBA After Your Degree

Conclusion: MCA Or MBA After Your Degree

So whether you do MCA or MBA, it doesn’t matter — but don’t make the mistake of doing it from a Tier 3 college. MCA from a Tier 3 college often comes with no on-campus opportunities, and the same goes for MBA.

Comparatively, if I talk about job opportunities — if MCA gives you 10 opportunities, then MBA might give you only 4. That’s the current market standard in terms of job availability.

In MCA, you need to work hard on your technical skills, while in MBA, you need to focus on communication and leadership skills.

So this is the conclusion I want to give here. And last but not the least, I want to tell you all — if you’re aiming for a higher and more stable package, please make sure to appear for the CAT exam and pursue your MBA from an IIM.

And if you’re interested in computer skills or want to enter the IT domain, then I suggest you clear the NIMCET exam and pursue your MCA from an NIT (National Institute of Technology).
